Installing VMware tools on an Ubuntu guest

VMware tools Ubuntu guest install open-vm-tools

Sometimes the simple and seems to be the best way.

sudo apt-get install open-vm-tools

I have done it both ways the way you see above and installing the native VMware tools. I do not see any advantage in the native tools. But when you use the apt-get the advantage is when you update you Ubuntu machine the tools get up dated also.

I use to insist on installing the native tools but I have come to realize at least for me there is really no tangible benefit.

open-vm-tools is a fully-supported open source implementation of VMware Tools.
